Background of Organization: Sanchit Vikas Sansthan
founded in 1992-93 by some enthusiastic youth from rural background of
agriculture and social work. Finally, it became registered under society’s
registration Act XXI, 1860 in1994-95 and after 6 years of its registration, the
Ministry of home affairs has registered it under FCRA in 2001.
The
motivational force behind the foundation of SVS was the poverty of social
injustice, inequitable distribution of resources and lack of self esteem and
self confidence among the poorer to change the situation.
SVS is sought
to concentrate on the empowerment of rural masses specially the Women &
Girls of the rural areas.
SVS believes
that the women & Girls are most vulnerable group in society and also strongest
agent of social change and through them all the deprived section can be
reached.
SVS started
its journey by organizing the women and dalits & women through creating
awareness among them about their basic rights & sensitizing them towards
importance of education and realizing their entitlement taking part in
development process with local support by some active youths in 1992. That
effort taken an organizational structure in 1994, when theses youths felt that
for a continuous effort and sustainable change in society there is need of a
formal body and support from other likeminded persons is required. Gradually some other people joined and other
organizations joined the effort of SVS though their moral, technical, and
financial support.
In year
2003-04 SVS took initiatives to organize rural women for their entitlements through
Lok Shakti
Project (PACS
PROGRAM) under leadership of
PANI (a well known development
organization in eastern UP as well as in North India) that given great experience to SVS towards organizing
people specially women & Girls and mobilizing resources in 19 villages of
Dumariaganj development block of Siddharth Nagar district. Partnership with
PANI extended to implement the Sure
Start Project to address the issues related to maternal & Neonatal
Health in Ramnagar Block of Basti district with financial support of PATH and POUZEN Project ensure the
use of safe drinking water in same block with financial support of USAID.
In the mean time SVS realized
that persons with disability are most deprived across the society and they need
support and courage for mainstreaming. Keeping in view this fact SVS started to
mobiles the Govt. resources for sensitization of community leaders, community
members, appliances and insurance. National Trust, Min. Of Social Justice &
Empowerment, GOI also provided support training of NGOs, Govt. Officials and
establishment of day care schools for mentally challenged children where 35
children are being trained in daily activities and learn basic.
SVS
started intervention with farmers to organize them on the issues of supply of
quality seed, fertilizers, corruption at Minimum Support Price Purchase centers
& information sharing on improved agriculture practices, rational use of
chemical fertilizer, and promotion of local manure. SVS also discussed and encouraged
to farmers for social forestry. Observing this effort of SVS NABARD Lucknow
supported to SVS for promotion of 10 farmers club in the intervention area.
SVS also extended
to health entitlement of women and children through activating community forums
like village health & sanitation committees (VHSC), Rogi Kalyan Samities,
mother’s Groups,VHND in National Rural Health Mission and community education in Ramnagar Block of
Basti District I year 2007 in the partnership of PANI.
The
organization is currently working under SELF
project by the support of SDTT, Mumbai. This is the initiative of the
organization for the livelihood enhancement of the marginalized farmers.
Through this initiative the organization cover 750 marginal farmers of two
district Basti & Gorakhpur. In the Basti district the organization working
with self initiative and with the support of one other sub-partner IRADA while
in district Gorakhpur the organization is working with the support of
sub-partner AADHAAR.
By keeping in view to efforts of SVS for
betterment of Women & Child UP State Government recognized it by awarding
State Women & Child Development Award, in Year 2000.
Vision: The Vision of
SVS is to establish a progressive society, full of right to equality for women
and free from fear, hunger & injustice..
Mission: To organize
& educate the socially disadvantages groups with special focus on women
& children, so that they can realize & exercise their rights.
Strategy: SVS believes
in inventing in un-human conditions making people vulnerable and strengthening
the vicious cycle of poverty through organizing people, information
dissemination and making their accessibility over Govt. Schemes program. It
also has believes in developing networking & linkages with other govt.
& NGOs for better functioning of policies in favor of poor and weaker
section of society.

Methodology
of SVS: Since SVS is dedicated for empowering the rural poor especially small
& marginal farmers keeping focus on women and wellbeing of children hence it
planned to continue this effort for realizing the entitlements of women and
wellbeing of children through-
- Creating peer pressure on govt. functionaries for effective implementation of programs and schemes.
- Facilitate the marginal groups & to develop the leadership skill by providing them quality education.
- Facilitation of farmers through technology transfer and experience sharing towards improving production of agriculture & allied activities in sustainable manner.
- Environment protection through creating awareness among community and promotion of plantation.
- Sharing of experience with other like minded organization and developing wider platform to socially disadvantage groups especially women.
- Sensitizing and capacitating the service providers about the need and entitlement of persons and children who are mentally and physically challenged towards mainstreaming them in the society to live a dignified life.
- Lobbying at district level for effective social audit process in development program in respect to level of participation of women and differently able persons in MNREGA other sachems.
- Assessment and dissemination of finding related to level of enrollment and fulfillment of educational need of differently children.
- Building network with local organizations for collective initiatives on issues of entitlement of women and children.
Focused
Interventions:
Community Organization: SVS believes
that community empowerment is the best way for sustainable development and
social change. Hence SVS emphasizes to make the community informed about their
rights, entitlement, Govt. Schemes, functioning of Govt. Departments to empower
the people. The community empowerment interventions of SVS are:

Promotion of community based organizations like Woman
Groups, youth forums, farmer’s club,

Information dissemination on rights and entitlement,
·
Capacity Building of leaders of community based
organizations
·
Promoting Gender Equality through keeping women in centers
of development interventions,
·
Advocacy and networking with local groups to protect human
rights,
·
Rural library for youths.
Livelihood Promotion: SVS implement
all economic development interventions through Self Help Groups. Followings are
major economic development interventions.

Promotion of Self

Promotion of micro saving -credit activities with NARARB.
·
Training of farmers on Improved Agriculture practices,
·
Promotion of bio-compost, wermi-compost.

Entrepreneurship development of saving credit group members

Vocational Training to entrepreneurs.

Facilitate the financial linkage of SHGs with local Banks
·
Mobilize support from Govt. Poverty Alleviation Program i.e
MNREGA.
Disability
& Health: SVS believes to make the health system functional to
address the health needs of unprivileged groups/ communities, and facilitate to
community to actively participate in health delivery system and access the
services.

Maternal & Neonatal Health interventions through
facilitating implementation of NRHM, support to ASHA system, Village Health
& Sanitation Committee, promotion & capacity building of Mother Groups.
·
Identification and promotion of positive traditional
practices related to maternal and neonatal health.
·
Awareness and campaign against, AIV/AIDS, TB, Leprosy.
·
Community education regarding promotion of use of safe
drinking water.
·
Social Mobilization and campaign against discrimination
with persons with disability ,

Mobilizing support to Physically challenged persons for
medical appliances

Community sensitization for prevention of disability

Mobilizing Govt. schemes for challenged person and equip
them with proper information to access these services
Environment Protection: SVS has its
deep concern on environment protection because it believes that environment is
essential for existence of living being. Hence Organization is engaged in this
direction through-

Mass education campaign on environment protection.
·
Construction of soakpit for safe waste water disposal
·
Promotion of plantation in fellow lands and social
forestry.
·
Advocacy on environment related issues.
Major Achievement: With active
support of partner and alliances SVS has made following achievements toward
bringing the change in the life unprivileged people especially women, children,
and persons with disability.
·
Women organized and taken initiatives to access their
entitlements.
·
Mentally Challenged Children learn their daily activities
and getting education since last 4 years.
·
More than Ten thousand
persons with disability benefited by pension scheme, rail and bus pass
and got their disability certificate in districts Gonda, Basti, Balrampur, Sant
kabber Nagar, Siddharthnagar.
·
Ten farmers clubs formed and capacitated in organizational
management, improved agriculture practice, use of bio-compost, green manure.
·
Members of Farmers club identified as progressive farmers
by Department of Agriculture since they adopted the new techniques i.e. soil
testing rational use of fertilizer, use of quality seed.
·
Experience sharing by farmers at village level is in
practice.
·
Plantation being done by farmers on their buds and use of
cow dug as fuel has reduced.
Alliance Building at Local Level:
SVS coordinate a district level forum of
grassroots level voluntary organization named SATHI- Basti as district chapter
of the state level network SATHI-UP
based in Faizabad.
